Our Story

King of the Curve (KOTC) was founded by medical students and is supported by experts in educational psychology to address the intense pressure of preparing for exams like the MCAT® NCLEX® and STEP®. Our goal is to provide a stress-reducing and accurate tool for enhancing exam performance. We’ve designed an innovative platform that students genuinely enjoy using. We’ve overcome issues with traditional test prep, which can often be uninspiring, leading to inconsistent study habits and a broken learning curve.

Our platform motivates students to keep consistent by tracking their improvement over time. King of the Curve is with you along the entire medical education process. It is designed to be used over many semesters, following students 10+ months out from their exam day. This approach integrates studying as part of daily life, rather than a stressful, last-minute cram session that leaves you with an underwhelming score.

Our Unique Approach

Our strategy accelerates the understanding of theory and its successful application to real-world situations by combining learning and training modes. Our algorithm monitors user interactions with different scientific concepts, allowing personalization of content based on individual weaknesses including special strategies to boost scores. King of the Curve is a comprehensive educational system and includes everything one needs to succeed, while also integrating well with additional study methods closer to test day.

Present Day

King of the Curve has helped 10,000+ students score higher with less stress as we now rank top 25 in the Apple App Store for Education. It’s been especially rewarding accompanying underrepresented individuals into medical careers, who make up about 35% of our user base. KOTC offers a combination of scholarships and discounts, helping premed students save money by reducing the need for additional resources. As a comprehensive platform, we provide valuable support from early on, ensuring students get benefits well before their exam date.

Heath - Partner Affiliations

Heath Rutledge-Jukes is a medical student at Washington University in St. Louis and the co-founder of King of the Curve. He combined his undergraduate background in psychology focused on pedagogical design to create engaging, personalized learning experiences for students pursuing medicine. He is a distinguished student, having earned a top 99th percentile MCAT score, and his work has earned him recognition as a TEDx speaker. Heath remains committed to making high-quality education accessible and empowering future healthcare professionals through our platform.

William Kelly

William - Partner Affiliations

William Kelly triple-majored in Accounting, Economics & Finance, and Business Administration and graduated from Cornell University with a Master’s degree in Accounting. He co-founded King of the Curve (KOTC) with Heath before securing a competitive consulting position at Deloitte right out of college.

His passion for helping students led him back to KOTC, where he is a pivotal member in driving growth, marketing, and communications. William has helped us garner institutional recognition for our unique learning technology. King of the Curve has been recognized through the Global Impact Award, Missouri Technology Conference, the TechStl Startup World Cup, and more.

Andrew-Paul McIntosh

Andrew-Paul - Partner Affiliations

Andrew-Paul (AP) McIntosh graduated from Florida Southern College with a 4.0 GPA, earning dual degrees in Psychology (B.S.) and Communications (B.A.) in four years. Being an advocate for lifelong learning, he gained valuable experience as an educational intern at FSC and researcher in educational technologies before co-founding King of the Curve (KOTC) alongside Heath and William.

He plays a pivotal role in every aspect of our organization, bridging technical and logistical operations, including managing accounts and internal communications. He has also spearheaded our talent development efforts, leveraging his experiences as a Toastmaster to manage a team dedicated to providing the best experience for our partners.
